Kodiak Alaska Halibut Fishing
CHECK OUT THE PICTURES BELOW, all caught on Jigs on 65# or lighter tackle, in less than 200’ of water. EXTREMELY fun and easy to reel up compared to heavy setups. I fish light tackle, you set the hook.
Having spent 17 years fishing the TROPHY Halibut Capital of Alaska (Dutch Harbor-Unalaska), I know a thing or two about catching giant Halibut! Here in Kodiak is no exception. We fish shallow rock piles and Reefs to score our big catches.
There is a very distinct thrill in hooking a 5 foot+ 'Butt' in less than 100 feet of water on a jigging pole.
It could best be described as hooking up to a truck as it speeds away... a tremendous thrill not soon forgotten!
Make no mistake, I'll go where the fish are, but if we can get 'em shallow, on a Jig, thats what I'm going to do.
